Creating memories at Cable Hut Beach

“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature”. Henry David Thoreau

My sister came to visit, and we decided to explore a beach that was nearby. My beloved Portland was not on the list of places to visit that day because it was a last-minute decision. So, we decided to venture to Cable Hut Beach in St Andrew.

I always visit, but I have never documented the moment until now. I called my brother and asked him to come along, and he did without any hesitation. I see a future travel partner in him.

Cable Hut Beach is located in Bull Bay, 3.7 miles east-southeast of Harbour View on the East edge of Jamaica.

We took a coaster bus from Windward Road Primary School located on Windward Road for a cost of JMD 100.00 which led us to our destination.

Upon reaching the gate, we were a tool that there was a cost to enter which to my knowledge; it was a free beach.

I was shocked and unwilling to pay because I thought I was being scammed. I saw someone passing by and asked, “When did the owner property start charging a fee to enter?” He replied, “A couple of months ago.”

It was only one coastline, so I asked him if there was another entrance to the beach and he said yes and showed us where.

I stood as I watched the water reached up to cuddle the sand and the toes of my boots only to roll out again. When the roaring waves crashed, the saltwater drizzled my warm body.

I love the beach because I can walk for miles.

The sun released wave upon wave of heat from the centre of the blue sky. The beach stretched out into the distance like a talisman twisting about the beach, sprinkled with people relishing in Mother Nature.

With great desire, I start to walk along the beach.

The sand looked clean like sugar spread out for miles, as it squeezed between my toes.

At this point in time, my eyes are just like a digital camera, capturing every curve of the land and every action of the persons there.

The waves crash into one another, the wind gusting from the airwaves, the aroma of salty ocean rushes through my nose as I breathe in the fresh air.

My go-to place is the beach and river, of course. Some people like restaurants and clubs. But give me the sands all year. I suck in the salty air like its medicine, to me it is.
