Exploring Cascade Falls /One Drop Falls in Portland
“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” ~Andre Gide
I love St Ann, but Portland is extraordinary. You are a magical Parish, with remarkable beauty and peaceful hills. I love you Portland with no apologies.
I am very sure Portland will always be my #1 destination in my heart and will never be replaced, and this became facts when I explored Cascade Fall.
I first saw Cascade Waterfall on Instagram, and immediately fell in love. I wanted to visit this fall so badly, I began researching, but I was unsuccessful.
decided to pause my search and visit other destinations. I decided to visit Holywell in St. Andrew, and during my tour, I showed the guide a picture of Cascade Fall, and he said he knew where it was.
He was willing to take me there at the cost of course also he told me that Fish Dunn Falls was nearby, so I decided to Visit two falls in one day, which I've never done before.
On May 14, 2018, I took a taxi from Papine to Holywell in St. Andrew. I got on my tour guide's bike and off to see the hidden gem that I have been waiting forever to explore.
It was my first time visiting Portland from that side of the Island, and I must say I was speechless. The air made me feel new and more alive, fresh, clean air filled my lungs and made me feel energized. I saw a gorgeous view. I had to stop to take it all in and take a picture of course.
My day went from happy to scary in a matter of minutes. The guide told me a dog was approaching us, but I didn't think we had anything to worry about until the dog got near and I saw his size.
ven the guide feared the dog, and he came from the community. He planned to stand still. I said, "Are you crazy." "Do something more", but he was petrified, so I stood still while the dog sniffs us for about five minutes. I held on to the guide's hand so tight; his hands were about to fall off.
We immediately ran to bike; The dog came running at us, and we got on the bike as fast as we could. It was like a scary movie.
We continued our journey and laughed about how scared we were. Upon reaching our destination; I could see the waterfalls from the road. It was at this point we started the like to "Cascade Falls" also known as "One Drop Falls".
We walked through bushes and crossed waters. There were many slippery stones.
My guide lost his slippers because he didn't have the proper footwear.
Below are a few pictures I I hope will encourage you to visit Cascade Falls. Enjoy!
