My love Story: Meeting Norris Waterfall For The First Time
“Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” ~ Gustave Flaubert
I have been avoiding social media for the past few months because I am working on other projects, another newfound love, crocheting. I will never stop exploring hidden gems. I have so much to share but let me start with another love story about a waterfall in the number one overlooked parish in Jamaica.
Who knew I could witness a piece of paradise in the parish of St. Thomas?
Thanks to Downdiroadja, my latest obsession comes in the form of a waterfall called Norris Spring.
I've shared a video on TikTok. I have gotten many requests on how to find this hidden gem. I was not inspired to write until explorewithtosh asked about the directions to Norris Spring. Going off-topic but I must inform my supporters I travel alone 95% of the time via public transportation.
Hence my phone is in my bag until I arrive at the location. I work with spirit and the vibe of the environment. Hence, I won't be able to tell the exact directions but instead how I got to the location. This might not be sufficient information but that's all I've got.
Continue to regular programming. Downdiroadja sent me a DM of a post on Instagram of one of the sexiest waterfalls I have seen at home here in Jamaica. Waterfalls make my heart sing. Hence, I had to find this gem.
I put on my detective hat and started to scroll through Instagram. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you would know I rarely ask for the location of hidden gems because people do not reply to questions asked. Also, they give out wrong information.
After searching for a few minutes, I found the parish and the name of the community in which I would explore.
The weekend was near. I could not wait to be in the presence of the magical waterfall. Friday finally came. I packed all the necessities that included, including shoes (I walk in the water when crossing the river) clothes, just in case the rain fell, mosquito repellent, a first aid kit, and my bottled water. I would pack my swimwear but I wore it under my clothes because of the lack of restrooms in these areas. I don't drive so the option of changing into my swimwear was not an option. I lost my favorite hat so sadly no hat for this trip.
I couldn't sleep that night due to the joy I was feeling, knowing I was going to visit my new lover in Thomas. To be honest, I was shocked to see this handsome waterfall called Norris in St. Thomas. I must admit, I am one of the many Jamaicans that underestimate the beauty that’s hidden in the hills of this historic parish.
St.Thomas is rarely explored because of the myths of obeah attached to this parish. I wanted so badly to prove Jamaicans wrong; I wanted to unravel the beauty that St.Thomas possesses.
I asked my co-worker, Miss Bogle, if she knew where Gutter Head in St.Thomas was located. Her answer was yes. She said when I got to Yallahs, ask for a stop at Poor Man's Corner, where I will see taxis venturing to Gutter Head.
Miss Bogle is one of my detectives not yet on my payroll. Along with Miss Bogle's directions and my road map of St.Thomas, I was set for my trip to discover St. Thomas's best-kept secret.
Morning came, I got dressed, phone fully charged, and out the door, I went to explore the unknown.
I took a taxi to Downtown Kingston. Across from St.Willams Grant Park on Orange Street, I took a Yallahs coaster bus to Poor Man's Corner.
I showed one of the taxi men a picture of the waterfall. He said he knew where the waterfall was located. Hence, I went into his taxi and waited five minutes for two other passengers before leaving Poor Mans Corner.
Heartsease is one of the districts we passed before reaching my destination. Norris is the district in which the waterfall is located.
I arrived early hence; I didn't see anyone around apart from a few persons picking mangoes to carry to the market to be sold.
After five minutes of looking around, I decided to ask one of the men if he knew anyone willing to accompany me to the waterfall. He hesitated but when I started I provide compensation, he called his son who was ready for the ten minutes hike.
While hiking to witness magic, we introduced ourselves. My tour guide, photographer, and videographer for a few hours was Jahiem. I told him I write about hidden gems and also paid him in advance.
There's this Jamaican saying that goes "Encouragement Sweetens Labour." I wanted to get him energized for this hike. I knew payment would do the trick.
After receiving payment he said he had carried two persons to the waterfall and they never compensated him.
Guys, please remember to compensate the persons carrying you to a destination. These persons took the time out of their day that could have been used to generate revenue by other means. You can contact Jahiem at (876) 310- 8971.
We crossed a river, inclined and declined. It reminded me of why I love discovering hidden gems. I was rewarded with the most beautiful waterfall I've seen in St.Thomas.
Seeing Norris Spring for the first time, my heart started to sing, "I love you for infinity" the popular TikTok song.
My heart smiled so hard seeing Norris which made my worries disappear just for a few hours.
It was the kind of view I will never forget. This is one of the most romantic places I've been. I could see myself being tucked away in the hills of Yallahs having dinner with Norris.
I could never get tired of visiting waterfalls. The feeling it gives is explainable. I will never forget visiting Norris Spring. It's such a magical place.
Hiking to such a magical place was an amazing experience. I was mesmerized by the beautiful Norris Spring wondering what he would tell me about his life if the waterfall could speak.
Just another beautiful moment in the parish of St.Thomas. Cooper Hole and Allen Spring were my number one go-to spots but Norris Spring easily climbed up the ranks.
The answer is yes, visiting Norris Spring was amazing as you would think.
Dreams are different for everyone. My dream is to keep chasing waterfalls in the most remote parts of the island. I have to keep chasing waterfalls until the day I leave this planet.

See you on the next adventure.
