Discovering C-Pond Waterfall in Sugar Loaf, St. Andrew
“Nature is also great fun. ...
After four unforgettable days exploring Portland and a whirlwind day and a half in St. Thomas, it was time to head to St. Andrew, our final destination. This time, I had arranged for my friend Izzy and me to experience C-Pond Waterfall in the hidden gem of Gordon Town’s Sugar Loaf District. I stumbled upon this beautiful spot through a YouTube video and knew I had to share it with Izzy.
To make our experience even more special, I had booked a Herbal and Historic Tour with Ms. Velmor a week in advance, complete with a delicious, authentic Jamaican meal prepared right by the waterfall.
On the day of our adventure, Ms. Velmor greeted us warmly, and we began our climb up the steep hills of the Sugar Loaf Community. Her son, George, had already gone ahead to get the cooking started.
As we hiked, a small waterfall caught my eye in the distance, its gentle trickle a reminder of the untouched beauty of this place. I couldn’t resist stopping to take a photo, capturing the magic of this hidden oasis.
Continuing along the trail, Ms. Velmor shared her knowledge of the herbs that grew in the area.
From the healing Vervain to Leaf of Life and Blue Flax Lily, each plant had its own story and purpose.
We passed groves of banana, soursop, mango, and even pineapple trees—a true feast for the senses. As a nature enthusiast, I was in my element, snapping photos and filming for my YouTube channel to capture the essence of this serene place.
Finally, we arrived at C-Pond Waterfall, where the aroma of cooking greeted us.
George was busy preparing callaloo with fried breadfruit and plantain, and the sight and smell were enough to make our mouths water in anticipation.
I reflected on my visit to the Sugar Loaf community which was more than just a visit to the waterfall.
The entire experience felt like stepping into a different world.
A rural community isolated in a pocket of mountains, free from city noise and crowds.
The people here have a way of life that’s as natural as the landscape itself.
In a place without paved roads or formal electricity, this area’s connection to nature feels pure and timeless.
Even as a devoted Portland enthusiast, my time here made me wonder if St. Andrew holds a special place in my heart, too.
A friend of mind told me that at night, the small cluster of houses on the mountainside shines like stars, lending a fairytale-like charm to the entire valley
My heart will always belong to Portland, but St. Andrew’s hidden wonders keep me second-guessing!
While the food was cooking, I took the opportunity to take a few more photos and simply relax, soaking in the peace and beauty of the falls.
It felt wonderful to be wrapped in nature's embrace.
I was reminded of why I love being outdoors, immersed in landscapes like this.
Soon, the meal was ready, and to our surprise, George added a fresh avocado to the spread.
The food was beyond delicious—perhaps the best callaloo I’d ever tasted (besides my own, of course).
Every bite was a reminder of the rich flavors and love that go into Jamaican cooking.

Eating beside a waterfall, surrounded by mountains, brought a sense of peace that only a place like Sugar Loaf could offer.
After our meal, we rested for a bit, savoring the moment.
We said Farewell to C-Pond waterfall before making our way back down the mountain.
Ms. Velmor generously shared a few herbs with us as we departed, making this day even more memorable.
