In 1703, the parish was named Westmoreland by colonist after the English took over the Spanish rule.
Major towns in Westmoreland are Bluefields, Seaford, Negril, Grange Hill, Bethel Town and Savanna-la-mar being the capital of the parish. One of the first Spanish settlement was in Bluefields. One of the main tourist destinations in Jamaica is Negril.
Westmoreland is the most westerly parish hence its name. It’s bordered by St. James and St. Elizabeth on the east and Hanover on the North.
Marl, Coral Reefs and White Lime Stones are present in the parish that lies on the Georges Plain in the county of Cornwall.
