“We travel, some of us forever, to seek other places, other lives, other souls.” – Anais Nin
During my lunchtime at work, I started to think about the parishes that I have not visited or explored. Hanover, Westmoreland and St Catherine came to mind. I didn't want to travel too far from Kingston. I chose Clarendon.
I started to research places to visit in Clarendon and Salt River popped up. I decided on July 20, 2019, to visit Salt River and go on the Devon House tour. I promise my niece that we would do this tour a while back.
Also, we haven’t been to any water destinations in the longest while. If you are new to my blog, she was my travel buddy until she got older lol. I started to wonder if I became less fun.
We took a May Pen Coaster bus from downtown Kingston. Our final stop was at the May Pen Bus Park. I asked the driver where to get the Salt River taxi, a passenger overheard me asking the driver and indicated he was headed in that direction.
I went along in good faith and positive vibes. He carried me to the taxi park, he saw a driver he knows and informed him where we wanted to go. He said I would pay JMD 200 extra on the fare, which total to JMD 400, I agreed.
A lady and her son were already in the vehicle. After the taxi was at its max with passengers, our journey continues. We started to have a conversation about public transport to explore Jamaica. It is for this said reason I love to travel via public transport. It is not only cheaper but you get to have conversations with fellow Jamaicans and create friendships.
When we got to our destination, it was already packed. I love having spots like these to myself for even a few minutes but I wasn’t going to allow the crowd to ruin my day.
I got into the water. That was when I fell in love with Salt River. The water was the perfect temperature. I didn’t want to get out. My niece was set on Devon House so she didn’t come into the water which not only felt amazing.
I tried explaining how amazing it felt but she was not impressed so I enjoyed the water for both of us.
It was time to go. My niece was making it very clear she didn’t come to stay by not coming into the water. I got out of the water, got dressed and called the taxi. I had taken his number. Well, I always do especially when I go to remote places.
Salt River is near the east coast of Lionel Town and the #1 spot for locals. It’s also visited by plenty of tourists. If you want to eat fish cooked many ways and enjoy the view, Salt River is must visit.
I am revisiting Salt River. I must say, the water is the best I ever felt. Days after visiting, I could still feel how incredible the water felt on my body. I will be back soon Salt River.
It is open to all at no cost. Many people visit the spot pain and ache while others for bad luck the driver says. There plenty of vendors so you don’t have to worry about food.
Have you heard of this part of Clarendon? Are you willing to visit? Spill!
