“Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey.” – Fitzhugh Mullan
I wanted an adventure but not one too far from Kingston. I started researching places to visit on YouTube and found Salt River in Clarendon.
I remember telling my niece Bryanna about touring the Mansion at Devon House. We decided to visit both locations.
My visit to Salt River was spectacular. The water felt amazing. the location gets crowded very quickly so I will be visiting early in the morning.
Bryanna just wanted to do the tour at Devon House. Hence she didn't get into the water. I never wanted to get out but I had to. Bryanna made it very clear when she stood the entire time watching me playing around the water.
I eventually got out and call the taxi that took us to May Pen t bus park. Upon reaching HWT, we walked to Devon House on Old Hope Road then turned on Waterloo Road.
Bryanna was more excited than I was. Upon reaching Devon House, we approached the cashier. She outlined the tour packages which were Sweet Escapes, Patty Lovers, Chocolate Delight, Coconut Cooler, and Taste of Devon House. They all included the Devon House Mansion Tour.
All these packages cost JMD 950.00 Adults and JMD 750.00 for children under 12 years old except Taste of Devon House that cost JMD 1800.00 for adults and JMD 1500 for children under 12 years old.
We purchased Sweet Escapes where we both got a scoop of Devon House Ice Cream of our choice.
The Patty Lovers includeD a Gourmet Beef, Chicken or Fish Patty at the Devon House Bakery. Chocolate Delight included a one/two pieces of filled or plain melt in your mouth chocolate at Chocolate Dreams. Coconut Cooler included a bottle of cool and refreshing coconut water at Coco Raw and last, Taste if Devon House. You get to choose three out of the four options that were ice cream, coconut water, beef patty, chocolate dreams.
Our tour guide came. She was pretty awesome. We were allowed to take pictures in the house.
We saw the Young Girls Room, Ballroom, Drawing Room, Games Room, Bathroom, Dining Room, Master Bedroom etc.
To be honest, we expected more from the tour. It was boring. We always visit Devon House and was curious about what was inside the "Big White House". We got our ice cream after the tour, spent a few minutes on the property and went home.
It was a good day. I favourite part of the day was our trip to Salt River. I was planning my return while I was in the water🤣.
Devon House was called Devon Pen. The owner of the house was George Stiebel. His parents were German Jew and a Jamaican housekeeper.
Thousand of people visit the property. It's perfect for picnics because of its beautiful lawn and palm trees that give you a peaceful feeling.
Devon Hose Mansion opens at 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
