“At its best, travel should challenge our preconceptions and most cherished views, cause us to rethink our assumptions, shake us a bit, make us broader minded and more understanding.” –Arthur Frommer
I've been searching for a place to visit in Portland since none found me recently.
I found a video of a waterfall on YouTube. It was about a hidden waterfall in Swift River in Portland.
I ventured to Portland on a Sunday. Not the perfect day for an adventure via public transportation.
Sundays are for family and chores.
I took a Portland Bus from Half Way Tree to Hope Bay in Portland. I met a nice elderly lady on the bus.
She assisted me in getting a taxi to Swift River.
By the time I got to Swift River, the sun was at its peak. My only intention contact information for my future tour guide.
I asked the driver about the waterfall. He was unaware of it.
He said he knew someone who knew the location of the waterfall.
We drove from Tucker Road to the community of Chelsea.
He introduced me to Troy. A resident from the community who knows the ins and outs of Swift River.
He agreed to be my tour guide n my next visit.
I took his contact information and went back to Kingston.
I returned to Swift River months later because of the heavy rainfall.
The timing was not perfect. It was dangerous to hike in the hills.
Troy indicated that it was not safe. The area was muddy that could lead to us falling down the hill. There were plenty of springs to cross.
I had to settle for the river.
I wasn't going to risk my life. I decided to return to find this hidden gem.
Have you been on an adventure at Swift River?
