Laughing Water: Another paradise on earth

“Old God sure was in a good mood when he made this place.”
― Hunter S. Thompson,
 The Rum Diary

Laughing Waters is called Roaring River by Mammee Bay.

Admission is free. I purchase snack from a rastaman selling on the beach and left the change with him. He considered it donation towards making the steps to enter the beach.

The River Spills into the charming Caribbean Sea. Well, this is based on my research. I had to visit to make sure it was all true.

processed_20200928_065518.jpg

Its located east of Dunn's River Fall and Pearly Beach. I can’t wait to explore Pearly Beach.

St. Ann Development Corporation and its parent, the Urban Development Corporation manage the attraction that is a government organization that operates and own a number of Jamaica's most worthwhile sightseeing attractions.

It wasn’t hard to find to my surprise. After leaving Little Dunn’s River, we took a taxi at the entrance of Mystic Mountains heading to St. Ann’s Bay.

processed_20200928_073627.jpg

I asked the driver for a stop at Laughing Waters entrance.

processed_20200926_131442-01.jpeg

After passing Passage to India Sign, about five seconds later, the driver stopped along the A3 Highway. There were no signs or paths so be alert.

processed_20200926_131405-01.jpeg

The opposite was a dirt track that the driver pointed out to us.

processed_20200926_131150-01.jpeg

Laughing Waters is a part of a private property so we stepped over a barbed wire fence and continued straight until we came upon a crossroads then we turned right.

processed_20200926_112146-01.jpeg

It looked like an old abandon driveway. We walked for about 5 minutes before seeing the private property straight ahead with security guards.

processed_20200926_115605-01.jpeg

We turned left onto a track and walked for about a minute before reaching the bridge across the Roaring River.

processed_20200926_113538-01.jpeg

We had to climb down a few steps which made an easy path to the beach with the help of a few tree roots that we held on to very tightly.

processed_20200926_104220-01.jpeg

These steep steps were dug out by men who sold snacks on the beach.

processed_20200926_105648-01.jpeg

We were scared to climb down but we were not going to turn back after preparing for this trip a month in advance.

processed_20200926_103624-01.jpeg

We made it down the scary steps and saw something magical, cascades meeting the sea.

processed_20200926_115123-01.jpeg

I was stunned by how magical this hidden location was.

processed_20200926_103644-01.jpeg

Why wasn’t I in a rush to find this gem?

processed_20200926_115028-02.jpeg

We were at the location around 10: AM and we almost had it all to ourselves. A few visitors were in sight.

processed_20200926_112556-01.jpeg

Not my typical location where I am alone with the tour guide but the beauty of the location made that less of an issue. I was able to capture the location on my phone with ease.

processed_20200926_114651-02.jpeg

I would have never imagined a location this beautiful hidden in plain sight.

processed_20200926_112533-01.jpeg

I wasn’t expecting so much beauty packed in one place. I’ve mostly visited waterfalls but I was extremely happy I decided my adventure would by at the beach.

processed_20200926_113804-01.jpeg

Roaring River is the source of Freshwater. It provides depthless natural pools.

processed_20200926_114525-01.jpeg

Let me say, the river is freezing cold. This is for you D'Ann. I know how much you love freezing cold water. Please step over the dam barbed wire fence. You will thank me later.

processed_20200926_112130-01.jpeg

It was unbelievable how the ocean has two levels; the top level is the excess of cold spring water from the waterfall and the bottom level is warm water from the Caribbean Sea. Spectacular right?

processed_20200926_113649-01.jpeg

There a few trees that cover the waterfalls. Also, comfortable seats are made from the rocks. You can sit and allow the water to caress your body. Free therapy I call it.

processed_20200926_112632-01.jpeg

Laughing waters reminds me of Frenchman’s Cove in Portland where the river flows into the sea.

processed_20200926_113744-01.jpeg

Ive been to Bamboo Beach Club but its nothing compared to this little piece of heaven.

processed_20200926_113401_066_saved-01.jpeg

My niece and I played around the sea which was a mixture of cold and warm water. It felt super weird to us. We kept running in the water each time the temperature switches from warm to cold. I love every moment of this day.

processed_20200926_113237-01.jpeg

We walked, danced, ran, and played on the golden sand.

processed_20200926_113129-01.jpeg

This is the perfect getaway. To top it all off, it has the best of both worlds; Beach and River.

processed_20200926_112123-01.jpeg

If you want to meditate and relax, just arrive early where you will have the rock pools and depthless waters all to yourself.

processed_20200926_111632-01.jpeg

I must admit, it is one of the most stunning beaches I have seen in Jamaica.

processed_20200926_111424-01.jpeg

It’s great for a photoshoot with the waterfall and the Caribbean Sea as the backdrop. I took a few photos that T'Naa and I screenshot from google. Yeah. I was pressured to incorporate new poses. Not sure it worked out but let me know in the comments below.

processed_20200926_104322-01.jpeg

I will never get tired of seeing the freshwater from Roaring River hurries to collide with the sea.

processed_20200926_111416-01.jpeg

The beach is perfect for kids. It is very shallow and a great distance away from the shoreline.

processed_20200926_104520-01.jpeg

This beautiful location can accommodate a large number of visitors. It’s great for picnics, fun day, or even a romantic date. Let me stop. Too many romance movies. Hint, Hint.

processed_20200926_111136-01.jpeg

Peace and tranquillity are the perfect words to describe Laughing Waters.

processed_20200926_112356-01.jpeg

Lose yourself in a book while lying on a blanket, listen to the sound of the waters as it gushes on the fine shells or bacchanal in the tucked away charm of Laughing Waters.

processed_20200926_110748_088_saved-01.jpeg

Laughing waters became famous when it appeared the first James Bond film, Dr. No, when Ursula surfaced from the sea singing “Underneath the mango tree". It is also known as Crab Key beach.

processed_20200926_110532-01.jpeg

No parking space in sight but I saw persons parked along the highway on the wide side of the road west of a JPS substation.

processed_20200926_110103-01.jpeg

Not going to lie, the Supreme Being spent a lot of time perfecting Laughing Waters.

processed_20200926_110033-01.jpeg

I never water leave neither did my niece but we had to because our mode of transportation was public.

processed_20200926_105810-01.jpeg

I am so returning to Laughing Waters. Another paradise found.

processed_20200926_105438-01.jpeg

I’ve been to Turtle River, Dunn’s River, Blue Hole, Spanish Bridge and Konoko Falls. Let me say they are all beautiful and unique in their own way. But there is something magical about Laughing Waters that has me speechless.

processed_20200926_105111_008_saved-01.jpeg

Are there more entrances to Laughing Waters? How was your experience at this paradise? Would you step over a barbed wire fence to visit this hidden gem? I am so excited to hear from you in the comments below!
