Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I first saw a glimpse of this natural wonder that came through the lens of a TikTok video, sparking an immediate love affair. In the heart of the parish of St. Mary lies a hidden gem that captivates the soul – the majestic waterfall of Belfield. Eager to experience its beauty firsthand, the journey began at the crack of dawn, embarking on a thrilling, if not daring, adventure. My YouTube channel will feature content showcasing enjoyable adventures in the St. Mary.
The moment I laid eyes on it, I was captivated.
The cascading water, lush surroundings, and the sense of tranquility it exuded were simply irresistible.
I knew I had to find this place and experience its magic in real life.
The Journey Begins:
To reach Belfield in St Mary, I started my journey from Half Way Tree, taking a taxi at the early hour of 6:00 AM.
The road to Highgate was notorious for its winding and risky Junction road, where taxis speed and overtake recklessly.
It felt like a thrilling adventure in itself. There were no direct buses to Highgate, only coaster buses to Annotto Bay and then a taxi to Highgate.
The journey was not for the faint of heart, but I was determined to witness the beauty of the waterfall.
Guided by a Local:
Upon reaching Highgate, I showed a taxi driver the TikTok video of the waterfall, and to my surprise, he knew exactly where it was located.
He drove me to the entrance of a narrow road that led to the waterfall. From there, my real adventure began.
The Off-the-Beaten-Path Trek:
I was introduced to a local guide, a young man from the community, who agreed to accompany me to the waterfall for a reasonable fee.
We started our trek down a steep and challenging path.
The terrain was a welcomed workout, especially since I had plans to visit the Blue Mountain Peak for the second time.
A Journey Through Nature:
As we ventured deeper into the heart of Belfield, the route traversed through bushes, we walked through lush banana farms and into the untamed beauty of the river.
This was not just a trek; it was a journey through nature's wonders.
The Waterfall Revelation:
Finally, we reached the top of the waterfall. It was a moment of anticipation and excitement.
However, the waterfall's flow was not as thunderous as it had appeared in the TikTok video. Instead, it was a gentle trickle.
Nonetheless, I seized the opportunity to capture the beauty of this natural wonder through my camera lens.
I even took a refreshing dip in the mini pool below the waterfall and experienced a pedicure from the tiny fishes in the clear water.
The Promise of Return:
The journey to witness Belfield's waterfall left an indelible mark, an experience that called for a return to witness its full glory.
The essence of the adventure lay not just in the picturesque waterfall but in the daring path, the unexpected encounters, and the allure of the unknown.
This first encounter with the waterfall was just a teaser, a glimpse of the enchanting beauty that lay hidden in Belfield, St Mary.
