A Love Story with Rafjam Bed and Breakfast: My Solo Escape to the Blue Mountains

“Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs.” – Susan Sontag

Nestled in the misty hills of the Blue Mountains, Rafjam Bed and Breakfast is a slice of heaven I just can’t resist. It's where I go to unwind, create, and reconnect with nature. Located in Redlight District, St. Andrew, this charming Airbnb offers a perfect blend of nature and tranquility with waterfalls nearby, a cozy cabin, and peaceful mountain views.

My stay here was everything I’d hoped for and more—a journey that combined hiking, relaxation, cooking, and content creation in a place that feels like a second home. I always feel an unbreakable pull to this place; every visit brings a fresh sense of wonder.

The Journey to Rafjam

I started my trip in Papine, where I caught a taxi to the Redlight District. As I was adjusting my camera lens, a kind woman offered me a ride. I shared my travel content creator portfolio with her, and she loved it! She dropped me off near another Airbnb along her route, and we said our goodbyes. From there, I continued on foot, soaking in the sights of coffee trees with their colorful cherries—red, green, and yellow—as I snapped a few photos.

The trek was steep but scenic, and after a short walk, I reached Rafjam. Seeing the sign brought a wave of excitement and comfort, knowing I’d finally arrived at my little escape in the mountains.

Settling into Rafjam’s Cozy Charm

After checking in, I headed straight to my cabin and started a room tour, beginning with the bathroom, which had a beautifully earthy vibe.

The patio outside featured a hammock, where I took in as much fresh air as possible.

I snapped photos, capturing the trees and the flowing river.

The moment I entered my room, I was captivated.

Sitting by the window, gazing at the trees, I lost myself in the beauty of it all.

I spent some time capturing the cozy charm of the room, its soft lighting, the beautiful views outside the windows, and the soothing sounds of the nearby river.

I was smiling throughout the entire photo-shoot.

I spend a few minutes bya few the window where I could see the trees and river flowing.

I almost forgot I was taking photos because I closed my eyes to take it all in.

I snapped more photos, capturing the coziness of the bed, the stylish decor, and every corner of the cabin that made me feel like I was in a dreamland.

Sitting by the window, gazing at the trees, I lost myself in the beauty of it all.

Every corner held a beauty that was just waiting to be photographed.

A Feast for the Senses

Dinner was a treat: vibrant rice and peas, stir-fried pak choi and carrots, with crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes.

Every color on my plate added to the flavor—green, red, and orange ingredients transformed the meal into a feast for the eyes and taste buds.

As night fell, I made my way to the bar for a relaxing Malta.

I returned to my room to journal and read a book. The sound of the rain outside was like music.

I enjoyed a warm cup of tea as I listened to it fall. The rain fell softly outside, adding a calming rhythm to the mountain atmosphere—a perfect soundtrack for a cozy night in.

With the cozy ambiance, I eventually drifted to sleep, feeling completely at peace.

The space felt like a dream, with nature providing perfect company, and I felt at home instantly.

The next morning, rain kept me indoors a little longer, so I took the opportunity to relax in the hammock and capture more photos.

The hammock was so comfortable, I could’ve easily dozed off.

When the rain stopped, I slipped into my swimwear and took some photos by the window.

The lush greenery outside adding a natural backdrop that was simply breathtaking.

I was head-over-heels in love with the beautiful photos that were being taken by my bluetooth remote and tripod. It was all smiles. I was in air bnb heaven.

I made my way to one of the nearby waterfalls to cook breakfast.

I’ve been here a few times, but each visit feels like the first, as the waterfall’s beauty is simply timeless.

I had to capture the beauty of the waterfall early in the morning because it was magical.

MCooking at the Waterfall: A Nature-Inspired Breakfast

The water was icy cold but breathtaking, flowing freely and providing a magical backdrop for my little kitchen setup.

I brought a mini grill from Amazon, perfect for lightweight cooking adventures, and laid out a “table” of broad leaves for my ingredients.

My breakfast was a mix of fresh and colorful roasted vegetable skewerskewers, roasted corn, plantain, and steamed quinoa with pimento and green onions.

I seasoned the corn and roasted it to perfection over the grill.

I then prepare a steam Quinoa with Pimento green onion and butter.

Also, I roasted half of a ripe plantain.

The roasted plantain and corn was perfectly done.

I started preparing my veggies to be roasted.

The veggie skewers looked as vibrant as they tasted, featuring cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, okra, red onions, carrots, green beans, bell peppers, cucumbers, and Brussels sprouts.

Each skewer was a burst of color: cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, okra, red onions, and bell peppers layered beautifully.

Watching the food cook by the waterfall, with nature as the backdrop, was magical.

I place my veggies on the grill to be roasted.

I turned when necessary to prevent from burning.

I let layered it with my sauce.

My brush was a little big  but it did it's job coating the veggies.

The veggies were roasting perfectly because the fire was just right.

After a few minutes my breakfast was ready.

I brewed some lemongrass tea sweetened with honey.

I savored each sip while soaking in the atmosphere.

The breakfast was as delicious as it was colorful, and it was the perfect way to start my morning by the falls.

After eating, I took a dip in the cold, crystal-clear water, snapping photos that captured the magical morning light.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Leaving Rafjam wasn’t easy, but I knew I’d be back soon. On the way to the bus stop, a light drizzle started, so I pulled on my raincoat and enjoyed the misty walk through the hills. As I reached Redlight District, a waiting taxi took me back to Papine, and I shared an enriching conversation with the driver about the stunning landscapes of Jamaica and the charm of the Blue Mountains.
